Larq Self Cleaning Water Bottle Review, Worth It?

October 3, 2023 · In: Lifestyle, Reviews

larq water bottle review

In this article, I’ll be sharing my complete and honest Larq water bottle review.

When I first saw these self cleaning water bottles pop up on my instagram feed, I was immediately intrigued. I had also just lent my last water bottle (which I loved and literally took everywhere with me) to one of my children one day and he only went and lost it!! Flipping kids, I was not happy.

But maybe it was meant to be, as I was super excited when Larq offered to send me a new water bottle for free!!. Full disclosure, that I did not pay for this item myself. Please also note that there are affiliate links in this post, meanining that I may make a small commission if you choose to buy through my links, but at no additional cost to you. Using affiliates supports my small business and allows me to produce more content that is free to you the consumer.

I actually received this bottle a long time ago now, so apologies for only just getting around to writing the review, better late than never, right.?!

You can see their full range of products at livelarq.com

But it does mean that I have had a lot of time (oops, it’s been a year) to test it out and put it to use.

The Larq water bottle, is a self-cleaning bottle that uses UV-C LED technology to purify your water and eliminate 99.9999% of bacteria and viruses. But is this bottle worth the hype? In this comprehensive Larq water bottle review, we’ll dive into its features, performance, and whether it lives up to its promises.

One of the key features of the Larq water bottle, and what really caught my eye is its self-cleaning capability. Telling all the truth here, I am pretty lazy and I know I don’t clean my water bottle anywhere near as much as I should do and probably one of the main reasons I was so excited to try it out. I also literally use my insulated water bottles daily, I take it everywhere with me as I always share in my top health hacks (link kickstart) staying hydrated is one of those key habits and I always tell my clients to carry a water bottle everywhere, so I am sure to follow my own advice.

Not only getting water that is clean and safe to drink, but it’s also the added bonus that using a reusable water bottle will help to reduce the need for single-use plastic bottles. Better for your body and better for the environment is a winning combination for me.

Larq gained some visibility when they appeared on Shark Tank (the American version of Dragons Den for my UK readers) in 2021 and gained investment from 2 sharks. Years on and the company is still going strong and now has a wider range of products. From the self cleaning bottles, the Larq bottle purevis, filtered reusable bottles and water filter jugs.

Features and Benefits Of The Larq Bottle

The Larq water bottle stands out from the crowd with its pretty innovative features and benefits offering the world’s first self-cleaning water bottle. One of the key features of the Larq water bottle is its self-cleaning mode which is not something I had seen before with any brand. With just the press of a button, the bottle activates a UV-C LED light that purges the water, eliminating harmful organisms.

Another great feature of the Larq water bottle is its long-lasting battery life, because I for one am not very good at keeping things topped up if it needed carging more regularly than that. The bottle can last up to one month on a single charge, making it convenient for on-the-go use and for lazy people like me. It has USB connection for charging and instant water purification at the touch of a button, simply click the button on the cap to activate the cleaning cycle to get cleaner and better water quality in your bottle.

The Larq water bottle also boasts a sleek and modern design. It is available in a range of colors (monaco blue, granite white, obsidian black, himalayan pink and seaside mint) and sizes (500ml/17 oz & 740ml/ 25 oz). I really loved the look of the Himalayan Pink, however me being the scruff that I am went for the obsidian black as I knew it would just look better for longer.

larq water bottle review

The bottle is made from high-quality stainless steel, which not only adds to its durability but also keeps your cold drinks cool for up to 24 hours and hot drinks hot for up to 12 hours.

How does It work?

The Larq water bottle uses UV-C LED technology to purify your water. UV-C light technology has been proven to effectively kill bacteria, viruses, and other harmful organisms such as e. coli. When you press the button on the bottle, the UV-C LED light is activated, and it starts to cleanse the water. The process takes just 60 seconds, ensuring that you have clean and safe drinking water wherever you go.

As I live in the mountains and am often out and about hiking or doing other activities. Having the Larq bottle means I have the confidence to fill my water bottle up from anywhere and not having to worry about it being contaminated with some nasties.

The bottle also features an intelligent mode that automatically activates every 2 hours to keep your water fresh. This is especially useful if you forget to press the button or if the bottle is left unused for an extended period. Pressing and holding the button will switch on adventure mode, which is meant to give a longer purification.

The Larq water bottle is also easy to maintain. It is designed to be leak-proof, so you don’t have to worry about any spills in your bag. Additionally, it is dishwasher safe, making it convenient to clean.

Pros and cons of the Larq water bottle

Like any product, the Larq water bottle has its pros and cons. Let’s take a closer look at both sides to help you make an informed decision.

Pros:

1. Self-cleaning capability: The Larq water bottle’s UV-C LED technology eliminates 99.9999% of harmful bacteria and viruses, ensuring clean and safe drinking water.

2. Environmentally friendly: By using the Larq water bottle, you can significantly reduce your plastic waste and contribute to a greener planet.

3. Long-lasting battery life: The bottle can last up to one month on a single full charge from a usb connection, making it perfect for travel or outdoor activities.

4. Stylish design: With its sleek and modern design, the Larq water bottle look as high quality as it feels.

5. Durability: Made from high-quality stainless steel, the bottle is built to last and can withstand the rigours of everyday use. I am heavy handed and not to mention clumsy. My bottle has lasted a fair few drops and only has a few scartches to show for it.

Cons:

1. Price: The Larq water bottle is definitely on the pricier side compared to traditional water bottles currently retailing at £99

2. Limited size options: While the Larq water bottle comes in a range of colours, it has limited size options, which may not suit everyone’s needs. I love the bigger size of the 740ml bottle as it has that bigger water capacity.

3. UV-C light exposure: Some studies suggest that prolonged exposure to UV-C light may affect the taste of the water, although the Larq water bottle is designed to minimize this issue, and I haven’t noticed any problems with the taste personally.

Personal Review and Experience With The Larq Water Bottle

Having used the Larq water bottle for about a year now, I can confidently say that it has exceeded my expectations. The self-cleaning feature gives me peace of mind, knowing that I am drinking clean and safe water. The bottle’s design is sleek and modern, making it a stylish accessory for my daily hydration needs and it has survived several drops on the floor without too much damage besides a couple of dints or scratches.

The long-lasting battery life means I don’t have to worry about charging it frequently, and the stainless steel construction keeps my water cool even on hot summer days, I may also have possibly put my wine in it whilst sitting by the pool from time to time, it does a good job of keeping that cool too.

larq water bottle review

While the Larq water bottle is a bit pricier than other options on the market, and sure it’s not going to be in everyone’s budget. Sure you can get a water bottle for £10 these days and the self cleaning option is not a necessity, but it’s certainly a nice to have.

I have used this when travelling, hiking and for every day use inbetween and I believe it is worth the investment considering its advanced features and environmental benefits, if you have the funds of course. I do see it as an investment in your health and your environment and potentially worth the price tag.

It has become an essential part of my daily routine, and actually, I think that the higher price point means that I take better care of it. I certainly won’t be lending this one to one of my children any time soon.

I would recommend it to anyone looking for a convenient and sustainable hydration solution when you are on the go, especially for outdoorsy people as I imagine something like this would become even more valuable if you are wild camping for example, or you know when the zombie apocalypse hits us.

I also will be looking at purchasing one of their water jugs soon as the water purification system in these appear to be far superior to something like the Brita filter which mainly removes chlorine.

The water jugs have advanced filtration that removes heavy metals, chlorine and other harmful pollutants. It’s one that is going to be on my wish list as we get ready to move into our new house which is finally nearing the completion of the renovation.

Where To Buy The Larq Water Bottle

The Larq water bottle is available for purchase on the official Larq website, as well as select online retailers such as Amazon. Be cautious of counterfeit products and ensure you are buying from a reputable source to guarantee the authenticity of your purchase.

Conclusion: Is The Larq Water Bottle Worth The Hype?

In conclusion, the Larq water bottle lives up to its hype as an innovative and sustainable solution for hydration. Its self-cleaning capability, long-lasting battery life, and stylish design make it a standout choice among other water bottles on the market. While it may come at a higher price point, the Larq water bottle offers exceptional value for money considering its advanced features and environmental impact.

If you’re tired of single-use plastic water bottles and want a convenient and eco-friendly alternative, the Larq water bottle is definitely worth considering if you have the funds, or maybe one that you put on your Christmas list as a special treat for something that you will love and get lots of use out of.

With its ability to keep my bottle clean (so that I have one less job to do) whilst also helping to reduce waste, it is not just a water bottle but a statement of your commitment to a greener future.

And it actually stands up against some of the trendy water bottles or cups, that do little more than keep hot water hot and cold water cold, but all of the TikTok girlies have them so they of course justify the price.

Stanley Cup £52

Yeti Rambler From £39

I hope this Larq water bottle review helped you make the decision on if you would like to invest in a higher-end water bottle.

Everyone seems to want a Peloton… but not everyone Everyone seems to want a Peloton… but not everyone wants to spend £1,600 on an exercise bike.

So I decided to see what a budget exercise bike for home could offer instead.

I’ve been testing the Merach Exercise Bike for the last few weeks and honestly, I wasn’t expecting to be as impressed as I am.

✔️ Quiet to ride
✔️ Comfortable seat
✔️ Bluetooth connectivity
✔️ Compatible with workout apps
✔️ Less than £200

Is it going to compete with the premium bikes? Probably not.

But if you’re looking for a budget exercise bike for home workouts, want to improve your fitness, lose weight, or simply move more without leaving the house, it offers incredible value for money.

I’ve just uploaded my full Merach Exercise Bike Review where I share everything I liked, what could be improved, and whether I think it’s worth buying.

Designed as nutritional support on your health journey
This might not be the popular message… but it’s th This might not be the popular message… but it’s the truth.

Training is incredibly important. It helps us build strength, maintain muscle, improve mobility, support our metabolism and stay capable for all the things we want to do in life.

But if your goal is fat loss or changing the way your body looks, you cannot out-train your diet.

One of the biggest things being on Mounjaro has reminded me of is that I wasn’t necessarily eating the wrong foods… I was simply eating too much.

A few too many snacks.
Portions that were a little too big.
A glass of wine that became two.

Nothing extreme. Just enough to keep me from maintaining a leaner body composition.

Since starting my GLP-1 journey I’ve naturally reduced my portion sizes, stopped mindless snacking and cut back on alcohol. The result? The weight is finally moving.

Not because I’m training harder.
Not because I’ve found a magic solution.
But because my calorie intake is finally matching what my body actually needs.

Keep lifting weights.
Keep moving your body.
Keep working on your fitness.

But don’t underestimate the impact of nutrition.

You build the body with training. You reveal it with nutrition.

Have you ever realised that your portions were bigger than you thought they were? Let me know below 👇

We naturally stop doing explosive movements as we We naturally stop doing explosive movements as we get older.
Jumping. Sprinting. Moving quickly. Reacting fast.

But that’s actually one of the reasons we start to feel older physically.

One of the first things to decline in midlife is power… and that’s not just about sport or performance. It affects balance, reactions, mobility, strength and even confidence in your body.

This is why I think some form of power training is so important for women over 40.

And honestly… it doesn’t need to be extreme 😅

It can be:
✔️ Kettlebell swings
✔️ Fast step ups
✔️ Light jumps or hops
✔️ Simply moving a weight with speed & intent

Build up towards doing drop jumps as per the video.

Because the goal isn’t just to stay “fit”.
It’s to stay capable.

Strong. Mobile. Reactive. Independent 💪

One of the biggest things I wanted to focus on during this journey wasn’t just losing weight… it was maintaining muscle, keeping my strength, improving my energy and actually feeling GOOD in my body again.

This has never been about becoming the smallest version of myself.

It’s been about
Improving my metabolic health
Reducing food noise
Supporting my PCOS & insulin resistance
Maintaining muscle through strength training
Feeling more confident and comfortable in my body again

Slow and sustainable has always been the goal for me and honestly I’m so glad I documented the process because sometimes you don’t realise how much has changed until you look back.

I’m still training hard.Still prioritising protein.Still focusing on healthy habits.

This definitely hasn’t been “the easy way out”… but I do finally feel more in control around food and far more like myself again ❤️

But that “this is getting hard now” feeling?
That’s usually where the magic actually starts happening.

If you finish a set feeling like you could easily knock out another 3-4 reps… chances are the weight is too light to really challenge you.

The last 1-2 reps should feel HARD.
Sometimes messy.
Sometimes accompanied by a little face scrunch or grunt 😂

It means you’re finally tapping into an intensity level that your body actually needs to get stronger.

And honestly? Most women are far stronger than they give themselves credit for.

You don’t need to destroy yourself every workout… but you do need to stop playing it safe all the time.

Try this in your next workout

When was the last time you jumped? Not for a work When was the last time you jumped?

Not for a workout… just naturally.

Because here’s the thing,
we don’t stop jumping because we get older…
we get older because we stop doing things like this.

Power is one of the first things to decline as we age.

And it’s not just about performance… it’s about staying strong, mobile and independent.

As we get older we naturally see:
• Loss of fast-twitch muscle fibres (the ones responsible for power)
• Reduced bone density when there’s no impact
• A drop in reactive strength (your ability to catch yourself, change direction, stay agile)
• An increased risk of falls — and with that, loss of independence

Jumping trains what most workouts miss:
✔️ Power
✔️ Bone strength
✔️ Coordination & reaction speed
✔️ Pliability and elasticity

This isn’t about jumping higher…
it’s about staying capable.

Start small. Stay consistent. Stay powerful.

Women losing weight — but noticing hair thinning.

And as a coach, this is where we need to zoom out 👇

This isn’t about the medication.

It’s about under-fuelling the body.

Hair health is one of the first things to suffer when:
– Calories are too low
– Protein is too low
– Nutrients are missing

You don’t need to panic… but you DO need to address it.

Fat loss should never come at the expense of your health.

You don’t need to train every day or follow compli You don’t need to train every day or follow complicated programs.

You need a structure that works with your body, especially over 40.

Here’s a solid weekly plan to build from 👇

- 3 x strength sessions (this is your foundation) = build muscle, support metabolism, shape your body

- 1 x HIIT or SIT session = short, intense, time-efficient cardio

- Daily movement = aim for 10k+ steps to keep energy expenditure high without burnout

That’s it.

Because fat loss isn’t about doing more… it’s about doing the right things consistently.

Strength training is what stops that “smaller but softer” look
Steps keep things sustainable
And a little intensity goes a long way

You don’t just wake up one day feeling “old”… It’ You don’t just wake up one day feeling “old”…

It’s a slow loss of muscle over time.

And with it?
A slower metabolism, less strength, less resilience.

That’s why fat loss after 40 shouldn’t just be about getting smaller.

It should be about holding onto (and building) muscle so you stay strong, capable, and confident for years to come.

You don’t need fancy workouts.

You need:
✔️ 2–3 strength sessions a week
✔️ Enough intensity to challenge those last reps
✔️ A structured plan with progressive overload

Because random workouts = random results.

you can’t keep training at the same intensity 👀

This is sprint interval training — and it’s one of the most effective ways to:

✔️ Increase fitness fast
✔️ Support fat loss
✔️ Build power (something we really need more of in our 40s+)
✔️ Get more results in less time

It’s not about doing more…
it’s about doing it better.

Short bursts. High effort. Proper recovery. Repeat.

This is your reminder to stop playing it safe in your workouts.
