Sweaty Betty Review: Are These Leggings Worth The Hype For Women Over 40?

October 8, 2025 · In: Fitness, Workout Clothes

When it comes to finding workout clothes, I’m always on the lookout for that perfect balance of comfort, style, and quality — pieces that not only look great but actually last. Sweaty Betty are often at the top of the rankings, but are they worth the hype. In this post I’ll be sharing my honest Sweaty Betty review.

As a woman in her 40s, I’m done with crop tops and bum-scrunch leggings. I want durable, flattering, high-quality activewear that makes me feel empowered when I step into my workout. So I’ve been on a little mission lately to find the best workout clothes for older women click here to see any other contenders, and so lets get into it..

(Quick note: this post isn’t sponsored — I paid for everything myself so I can give you a completely honest, unbiased opinion.) I do use affiliate links, this just means I may make a small commission should you choose to buy using my links at no additional cost to you. I appreciate your support.

Who Is Sweaty Betty?

If you haven’t come across them before, Sweaty Betty is a UK-based activewear brand known for eye-catching designs, functional fabrics, and their strong “women for women” ethos.

They’re proud to be 89% female-led, and I love that they’re committed to sustainability and inclusivity. Many of their products are made using recycled materials — like fishing nets and natural fibres — and they focus on creating high-quality, long-lasting clothing rather than fast fashion.

That said, Sweaty Betty definitely sits at the higher end of the activewear market. Their leggings range from around £65 up to £110, so they’re an investment. But my friend (and one of my fitness class members) swears by them — she’s had hers for nearly a decade, and they’re still going strong!

So when the latest Sweaty Betty sale dropped, I decided it was time to test them out myself — all in the name of research, of course!

The Sweaty Betty Activewear Haul

Here’s everything I tried — and my honest thoughts on each item.

Sweaty Betty Ultra Running Sports Bra

This was the piece I was most in need of — a supportive, high-impact sports bra.

I went for the Ultra Running Bra in my usual bra size (34C), and it fits like a dream. It has no padding but still feels super supportive, with a silky-soft lining that’s so comfortable against the skin.

I’ve taken it out for a few runs now, and it’s held up brilliantly — no bounce, no digging in, and I love the traditional bra clasp and adjustable straps (so much easier to get in and out of than racerbacks).

It’s definitely a tighter fit around the band, but that just adds to the support — and it will loosen slightly over time.

Best part? I picked it up for around €14 in the sale (RRP£60)— absolute steal!

Sweaty Betty Studio Flow Vest

Next up, the Studio Flow Vest. I went for an XL for a slightly oversized fit because I don’t love clingy tops (especially around the midsection).

The material is buttery soft, lightweight, and beautifully breathable — perfect for workouts or everyday wear. I wore it during one of my classes and didn’t overheat at all.

At around €10 off in the sale, I’m genuinely obsessed with this one. It’s one of those tops that feels so nice, it’s hard to go back to cheaper options. It comes in several colours, and honestly, I’m tempted to grab more.

The weight loss journey is going well but unfortunately now I need a whole new workout wardrobe. So it’s just an opportunity for me to continue on my mission to find the best workout clothes for us older women. On this mission so far @Sweaty Betty has been one of my favourites. So I couldn’t resist a sale. The studio vest is one now my favourite workout top. Super soft and lightweight. And I then got some power cycling shorts. Very happy with these purchases Definitely check out the sale if you need some new gym clothes. But be quick it’s ending soon. #workoutclothes #gymclothing #fitnessover40

Sweaty Betty Power Leggings Review

Now for the star of the show — the Sweaty Betty Power Leggings.

These are their best-selling, iconic leggings — and I can totally see why. I chose the 7/8 length, which is perfect for my height, and they feature both a zip pocket at the back and a side pocket (essential for dog walks, timers, or carrying your phone during workouts).

They also have a drawstring waist, which is a total game-changer. As someone with a thicker midsection, every pair of leggings I’ve ever owned has rolled down at some point — but not these. They stay put beautifully during squats, lunges, and strength training sessions.

The four-way stretch makes them fit like a glove, the shaping detail at the back gives a subtle lift, and they’re just so flattering.

I picked mine up in the sale for €37, but even at full price (RRP around €88–€90), I can honestly say they’re worth every penny.

I felt confident, supported, and stylish — and even my class members commented on how good they looked. If feeling amazing in your workout clothes helps you train harder (which it absolutely does), then these are a worthy investment.

Sweaty Betty Powerpace Gym Leggings

I also grabbed the Powerpace Gym Leggings — very similar to the Power Leggings but full-length and without pockets. Personally, I prefer the 7/8 length, but the Powerpace pair were such good value in the sale that I couldn’t send them back.

They’re equally flattering, with the same drawstring waist and sculpting fit. I got them in black, but they come in some gorgeous prints — I’m currently eyeing up the leopard print leggings because, well… if you know me, you know my love for leopard print runs deep!

Sweaty Betty Breathe Easy Scallop Long Sleeve

I’m actually wearing this one as I write — the Breathe Easy Scallop Long Sleeve.

It’s lightweight, breathable, and has a really pretty scalloped hem and split back detail that makes it look just as good with jeans as it does with leggings.

It’s slightly cropped and does rise a bit when you lift your arms, but it’s perfect for low-impact activities like walking, hiking, or layering up post-workout.

For everyday wear, it’s a winner — and I’ve already had several compliments on it. I probably wouldn’t have bought it full price, but on sale, it was absolutely worth it.

Sweaty Betty Revive Crop Half Zip

Finally, the Revive Crop Half Zip — a relaxed, cropped jumper that’s perfect for layering.

It’s thinner than my Lululemon Scuba, so more of a spring or autumn transitional piece, but it’s beautifully designed with a unique diamond-shaped half-zip detail.

I went for a large (I’m a UK 14 / EU 44), and it fits nicely, though I’d say the sizing doesn’t quite stretch to a true XXL.

This one’s perfect for throwing on over gym clothes or pairing with jeans for a casual everyday look. Again — loved it enough that there’s no way it’s going back.

My Honest Thoughts: Are Sweaty Betty Leggings Worth It?

So, after testing out multiple pieces, here’s my verdict: yes — Sweaty Betty is absolutely worth the hype.

Yes, the prices are on the higher side. But when you consider the quality, fit, and the fact that these pieces will last years, they actually work out more affordable in the long run.

They also offer bundle discounts (like 30% off when you buy leggings plus a top or bra), so keep an eye out for those — and definitely watch for the seasonal Sweaty Betty sale, where you can score serious bargains.

Why I Love What Sweaty Betty Stands For

Beyond the clothes themselves, I love what the brand represents.

Their “Just Wear the Damn Shorts” campaign encourages women to feel confident in their bodies, cellulite, curves, and all. And through the Sweaty Betty Foundation, they’re helping empower young girls across the UK to get into sport and movement.

It’s about more than leggings — it’s a feel-good, empowering brand that champions women at every stage of life. And as a woman in my 40s who’s passionate about helping others feel confident in their skin, that message really resonates with me.

Final Verdict

Would I buy from Sweaty Betty again? 100% yes.
Would I pay full price? Probably for the Power Leggings, without hesitation.

If you’re a woman over 40 looking for premium, flattering activewear that lasts, the Sweaty Betty leggings and sports bras are a fantastic investment.

Keep your eyes peeled for sales, because when you can grab these pieces at a discount, they’re money very well spent.

If you’re using a GLP-1, please don’t make the mis If you’re using a GLP-1, please don’t make the mistake of thinking the medication is the whole plan.

Yes, it can help with appetite, food noise and fat loss… but if you want the best chance of keeping the weight off when you eventually come off it, you need to use this phase to build the habits that support that too.

For me, one of the biggest pieces of that is strength training.

Because this isn’t just about getting smaller while the medication is helping.
It’s about protecting muscle, supporting your metabolism, improving body composition and building a body that’s stronger and more resilient long term.

If you’re on a GLP-1, don’t just focus on the scales going down.
Think about what’s going to help you maintain those results later too.

Are you strength training alongside it? 👇

This journey has been about so much more than just the scales for me. It’s been about reducing food noise, improving my relationship with hunger, losing body fat whilst trying to protect muscle, and figuring out how to do this in a way that actually feels sustainable for midlife and make real changes to my health

But if your goal is to stay strong, active and independent for decades to come, there are far more important numbers to pay attention to.

In my latest video, I share 6 simple fitness tests over 40 that assess your strength, mobility, balance, power and cardiovascular fitness. These are all areas linked to healthy ageing and longevity.

The best part? You can do these tests yourself and quickly identify where you might need to focus your training.

I took all six myself... and I didn't pass every one! 👀

Mobility helps you keep moving.

As I get older, I’m realising that both matter equally.

Everyone seems to want a Peloton… but not everyone Everyone seems to want a Peloton… but not everyone wants to spend £1,600 on an exercise bike.

So I decided to see what a budget exercise bike for home could offer instead.

I’ve been testing the Merach Exercise Bike for the last few weeks and honestly, I wasn’t expecting to be as impressed as I am.

✔️ Quiet to ride
✔️ Comfortable seat
✔️ Bluetooth connectivity
✔️ Compatible with workout apps
✔️ Less than £200

Is it going to compete with the premium bikes? Probably not.

But if you’re looking for a budget exercise bike for home workouts, want to improve your fitness, lose weight, or simply move more without leaving the house, it offers incredible value for money.

I’ve just uploaded my full Merach Exercise Bike Review where I share everything I liked, what could be improved, and whether I think it’s worth buying.

Designed as nutritional support on your health journey
This might not be the popular message… but it’s th This might not be the popular message… but it’s the truth.

Training is incredibly important. It helps us build strength, maintain muscle, improve mobility, support our metabolism and stay capable for all the things we want to do in life.

But if your goal is fat loss or changing the way your body looks, you cannot out-train your diet.

One of the biggest things being on Mounjaro has reminded me of is that I wasn’t necessarily eating the wrong foods… I was simply eating too much.

A few too many snacks.
Portions that were a little too big.
A glass of wine that became two.

Nothing extreme. Just enough to keep me from maintaining a leaner body composition.

Since starting my GLP-1 journey I’ve naturally reduced my portion sizes, stopped mindless snacking and cut back on alcohol. The result? The weight is finally moving.

Not because I’m training harder.
Not because I’ve found a magic solution.
But because my calorie intake is finally matching what my body actually needs.

Keep lifting weights.
Keep moving your body.
Keep working on your fitness.

But don’t underestimate the impact of nutrition.

You build the body with training. You reveal it with nutrition.

Have you ever realised that your portions were bigger than you thought they were? Let me know below 👇

We naturally stop doing explosive movements as we We naturally stop doing explosive movements as we get older.
Jumping. Sprinting. Moving quickly. Reacting fast.

But that’s actually one of the reasons we start to feel older physically.

One of the first things to decline in midlife is power… and that’s not just about sport or performance. It affects balance, reactions, mobility, strength and even confidence in your body.

This is why I think some form of power training is so important for women over 40.

And honestly… it doesn’t need to be extreme 😅

It can be:
✔️ Kettlebell swings
✔️ Fast step ups
✔️ Light jumps or hops
✔️ Simply moving a weight with speed & intent

Build up towards doing drop jumps as per the video.

Because the goal isn’t just to stay “fit”.
It’s to stay capable.

Strong. Mobile. Reactive. Independent 💪

One of the biggest things I wanted to focus on during this journey wasn’t just losing weight… it was maintaining muscle, keeping my strength, improving my energy and actually feeling GOOD in my body again.

This has never been about becoming the smallest version of myself.

It’s been about
Improving my metabolic health
Reducing food noise
Supporting my PCOS & insulin resistance
Maintaining muscle through strength training
Feeling more confident and comfortable in my body again

Slow and sustainable has always been the goal for me and honestly I’m so glad I documented the process because sometimes you don’t realise how much has changed until you look back.

I’m still training hard.Still prioritising protein.Still focusing on healthy habits.

This definitely hasn’t been “the easy way out”… but I do finally feel more in control around food and far more like myself again ❤️

One thing I see a LOT… women underestimsting what One thing I see a LOT… women underestimsting what they could really lift

But that “this is getting hard now” feeling?
That’s usually where the magic actually starts happening.

If you finish a set feeling like you could easily knock out another 3-4 reps… chances are the weight is too light to really challenge you.

The last 1-2 reps should feel HARD.
Sometimes messy.
Sometimes accompanied by a little face scrunch or grunt 😂

It means you’re finally tapping into an intensity level that your body actually needs to get stronger.

And honestly? Most women are far stronger than they give themselves credit for.

You don’t need to destroy yourself every workout… but you do need to stop playing it safe all the time.

Try this in your next workout
